Rain rain, go away...

Come again after my yard sale. We are going ahead with it, despite the forecasted weekend of thunderstorms. We have six families participating, so now I have to clean out my garage.

I tried to post last night but for some reason my internet wouldn't work. My home phone is wonky, too. Since they are both through Charter I expect that when one goes out the other will, but what I didn't expect is that my cell wouldn't work. For the last few days it has been crazy, too.

Oh well... the reason I am posting is not to complain about technology but to tell you that I spent quite a bit of time yesterday helping an elderly couple pack to move out of state. Oh.My.Goodness. I do not what to be in their position - ever. Seriously guys. This is the couple who has lived and traveled all over the world. They have a lifetime of memories and *stuff* that they are trying to sort through. Their daughter is doing nothing to help them... instead of coming to Michigan to help them pack and sort she took off for a week in the Virgin Islands. She is counting on people who she doesn't even know helping her 89 and 93 year old parents pack.

Their house is like a museum. Every time I go there I see something new that of course has a story to it. I love hearing the stories. She keeps offering me things for helping them, and always says "I hope that someday I can repay you!" I tell her that the stories are payment enough.

I did allow them to give me a rustic old wooden tray. I shouldn't have, but I wanted it so badly!

Wife: "I think [husband's name] made that."

Husband: "Yes, I made that."

Me: "Cool! Now it has a story!"

Husband: "I made that when I was in 7th grade."

Me: "Now it has a really cool story!"

They have to think I am insane.

Speaking of insane - Yesterday we trash picked some drawers. They were right across the street, and I was going to wait until it was dark - so that I didn't scare the neighbor any more than I already have - but they kept disappearing. Finally, I asked the boys to help me grab them. Even the friend that they had over helped. I told him that he didn't have to, but he said "It's ok. My mom makes me do it all the time." Ha! (His mom is the one who is going to eventually take my picture down and paint the edges.)

I have no idea what kind of wood they are, but a woman walking past us when we were grabbed them commented that they smelled like cedar. I am going to hang some on the wall to use as curio cabinet type things, I might take some apart for the wood. Who knows what I will do. I just know it will be fabulous! There are 12 of them, so there will be a lot of fabulousness.

Speaking of scaring the neighbors... she put a brand stinkin' new looking stroller out with the trash. The trash! I was going to go snag that after dark and put it in my yard sale. If it sold, I would take the money to her and say "Oh, I saw your stroller and just knew it would be put to good use by another family so I put it in my yard sale for you. Here is the money you made." I never got the chance. I have competition, people. Real life, driving in a truck with a trailer on the back filled with other trash picked treasures competition. He drove up, jumped out and tossed it into the back of his trailer without even blinking. Let me tell you... he had some other stuff in the back of that thing that I would have loved to get my hands on.

On the way home yesterday we were behind a guy with a pick-up full of broken concrete that would have been perfect for my patio. At a light I was going to jump out and ask him what he was doing with it but Christian begged me not to. And held me in the van so I couldn't get out. Sigh.
